Logistics & Process

  • When you’re ready to start counseling, please call our office at (616) 396-6285.

A member of our Administrative Team will help match you with a therapist who has the appropriate expertise and current availability. They’ll also review your payment options—whether you have insurance, an EAP, or will be paying out of pocket.

You’ll receive the initial paperwork to get started. Some therapists have openings within 1–3 weeks, while others may have a waitlist.

  • You and your therapist will discuss this to determine what you need and want. Many people choose to attend weekly or every other week, especially initially. Depending on what types of concerns you are addressing you may attend for weeks, months or possibly even for years. You will have many opportunities to decide if you want to continue or if you have completed your goals.

  • If you prefer on-line therapy, you can choose between having a video where you can see the person with whom you are working or a telephone appointment. If you choose the video option, we use HIPPA (privacy) compliant platforms such as DOXY.com. We will give you specific details about how to link with your therapists. For clients that typically come in-person, having on-line therapy can be an option if you are unable to come in person. Many clients have been able to switch to on-line briefly when they have car trouble, a sick child or something that ordinarily would have forced them to cancel their appointment.

  • You and your therapist will have a conversation. You will not be lying down on a couch but rather sitting in a chair or on a couch. You will talk about the goals you establish.

For some people who are addressing complex concerns, you might be offered to work with trauma therapies that might use Bilateral Stimulation such as EMDR. You might take a walk with your therapist or stay in the office.

Confidentiality & Ethics

  • We adhere to strict confidentiality rules. Your information will not be shared without your written permission except in a few specific circumstances. These are situations where we are required by Michigan Law to report.

    • If there is a reason to believe you intend to hurt yourself or someone else

    • If there is a reason to believe that abuse of child, elderly person or disabled person has taken place.

    • If there is a court order.

Misc.

  • We are on the south side of Holland just over Highway 31 and East 24th Street. The address is 607 Heritage Court. This is a small dead-end street just behind the Bob Evans restaurant.

Fees & Insurance

  • Appointment costs vary depending on the length and type of session, ranging from $90–$200. Many insurance plans cover “Behavioral Health Services” (also called “Mental Health Services”). Our team will help you review your coverage.

If your insurance does not cover our services, we offer a sliding scale based on your income. We’ll also provide a Good Faith Estimate of your expected costs and follow No Surprise Billing practices.

  • We accept cash, checks and credit cards (Mastercard, Visa, American Express and Discover).
